Starting from Old Sydney Town just off the Sydney to Newcastle freeway meant it was only a couple of klicks till the run was out into the backblocks, and, with no real risk of getting lost on the way due to plenty of markers stationed at all the appropriate corners it was always going to be easy to just enjoy the scenery and have a nice relaxed ride in the company of like minded folk. Ourimbah’s Tall Timbers Hotel was our first stop, and as is usual with most pubs on poker runs they had extra staff on hand, but, typical of the forward thinking with their poker run the CCAMC had gone one better and had hired a couple of, shall we say, not overdressed young ladies to take drink orders and then deliver them to the riders scattered around the parking lot, these ladies then followed the run to the other pub stops and there’s no doubt they saved a hell of a lot of time that would have been otherwise wasted by riders waiting in queues to get a drink. With well spaced additional stops at Paxton and a golf club who’s name escapes me there was plenty of time available to kick back and relax with a drink en-route, combine that with a couple of good blatts along the freeway plus numerous sections of winding back roads, dead set, even the most fastidious rider would have found something to really enjoy during the run. |
Finishing up back at Old Sydney Town where the CCAMC had hired the entire venue for the night, it was only a case of deciding whether to park the bike and pitch the tent inside one of the buildings or outside under one of the shelters, and, having done that, simply wander over for a feed and enjoy the nights entertainment provided by “Krank N Stein” in the Old Woolshed Dance Hall. This Poker Run has been going for quite a few years now and they have got it down to a fine art, so, if you are in the mood for a good day of riding next year keep your eye out for when this event comes round again. Thanks to all the people involved in organising another top day, and thanks to all the riders who participated. See you there next year. |
