6 Toed Rally 06
![]()
We all know how well GT and
his crew always look after us for this great rally. The standards are high in
every department and yet again they exceeded all expectations.
“Come over for an all you can eat seafood night,” they said, as if we really needed a lot of encouragement.
Trouble was, that when I got to Tamworth to camp the night, we found out it was St Patrick’s Day, and well, you can’t let that important day go uncelebrated. Led astray obviously by others I got to bed at about 4am Saturday morning, and was lucky to do so. Mine host didn’t see any sleep at all.
Anyway we saddled up at the allocated hour and 5 bikes headed over the notorious Port Stephens cutting. More good luck than anything else we made it to the bitumen at the other end covered in dust but basically unscathed, only to run into thick fog on top of the range. Dust turned into mud and it was a well-earned beer or two at the pub at Gloucester that was very kind on the throat. A short run then and we turned into the rally site about an hour later. Tents set up and we were off to catch up with everyone.
The gymkhana was under way by this time and a few drinks later we were ready for the tug-o-war and helmet toss. Unfortunately misty weather and a bit of drizzle combined to make too much condensation and the ole camera fogged up pretty bad. That put an early end to my photo taking. Anyone out there want to share some of their pics they would be gratefully appreciated and we’ll gladly put them on the page!
Just after dark out came the seafood. Hell, if there’s a population explosion in a few months time I’ll understand why. Oysters galore and prawns a plenty. Great tucker and for those that don’t like seafood, they had plenty of chicken and red meats with good salads as well. Talk about a feast! Good food and good company in a perfect setting, it just doesn't get any better than that!
Now about this time, I have to ashamedly admit that backing up for the second night just wasn’t going to happen. I hit the tent. I know though, cause Gina made sure we knew, that she won the wet t-shirt comp, and that the band played till the early hours. I also know cause I left my boots out that it also pissed down rain.
Morning came and breakfast was a ripper. A quick fold of the tent, our farewells and we were on the road. A perfect riding day.
Now feeling as fresh as you can get we decided to come home via Long Flat. Unfortunately we had a rider down at Gingers Creek. A bad bit of the road and running out of brake combined for an expensive bugger of a fall. Was good of him to do it where we could watch it though!

GT and members, thanks for a terrific rally once again. Hopefully next year the weather will be kinder and a few of those fair weather riders will make it along to see what they have been missing!
