AMC Coffs Harbour Poker Run 04
![]()
The
week leading up to this run wasn't the best weather wise but come Friday morning
and the sun was shining, the day was perfect and hell....what a day to ride! Fu
and I headed over to our fearless president's place and just out of Tamworth we
picked up Coops to keep us all in line. We decided to head through Walcha and
try all those 35km per hour corners out and we had a ball! By the time we had
run on past Long Flat we just couldn't stop smiling. Life is good!
We told Parko we'd be there about 6pm and so close to it that didn't matter we rolled into the Star Motel. If you want to stay at a friendly place then you wouldn't get any better than this. Ruth and Parko bent over backwards and were just so good to us! 66521333 or starmotel@tpg.com.au. We unpacked the bikes and headed to the Star bar for a few quiet ones and Grandma cooked us up a feed as well. All too good! Still smiling, a few quiet drinks, a feed and we hit the town.
Saturday dawned to yet another perfect day! Just how good was this? The Caltex Sth Coffs and the start of the run was literally just round the corner and they threw a $6 breaky on and even donated $1 of that back to charity! On top of that they supported the run by giving out 2 fuel cards redeemable anywhere to the value of $110. Passing through remember them guys and girls.....very generous and great supporters they deserve reciprocation! So Fill up at Phil's Caltex South Coffs!
First 30 registered for the run got a small bonus, (Yup...it's the little things that count) and at the due time about 140 bikes headed south! Now for the registration you got a BBQ lunch, you got to participate in the raffles at every stop including the major draw prize of $250 and you got a poker hand that made everyone smile, groan or moan that the winner found was worth $200! On top of that you got to take home a stubby holder as a reminder of the day! As well a backup vehicle with bike trailer followed along in case it was needed. Talk about being looked after!!!!!!!!!! All for $20!!!!!!!!!!Unbelievable!
It was good to ride the run with so many different types of bikes. The range was huge...from a 250 Suzi Marauder to a new 2.3 litre Triumph Rocket III, some interesting classics and just about every shape and size in between. From beginners to experienced riders. All enjoying themselves. Now isn't that what biking is all about?
Bazo set fair pace up front and the day went off without an accident or an injury as far as we could find out. The local charities did well out of some very generous biker types and everyone that was there had a ball! 4 pubs and 1club later and we settled in to the band playing at the final destination. They even put on a BBQ again there to make sure we weren't hungry. Thanks to all the sponsors incl. the Caltex Star Shop, Hoey Moey, H.D Addiction, Cyco Cycles, Wood Stock Bourbon and The Advocate. Parko organized safe lockups for the bikes and a bus was put on to transport us back to the Hoey Moey to play up. Still can't get over how thoughtful they were! A nightcap at the Star bar and the day was done.
Sunday morning we rang the bell and got Parko out of bed. Ruth came down too and saw us off. Up over the hills via the Waterfall Way and we froze our arses off going through Ebor. The BP on top of the hill at Uralla served us a hearty breakfast at the most reasonable of prices and we all got home tired but looking forward to the next one!
North Coast AMC take a bow! To all the officials and volunteers congratulations and thanks on a job well done. Was a good one guys. And Ruth and Parko ......you guys really turned it on! Cheers! Cya at the Xmas Party!!!!!!!!!
