Well, once again the Central coast AMC Chapter treated us to one hell of a good Poker Run, and the huge effort these folks put into the organisation side of it is one of the things that impresses me the most, with every set of lights and roundabouts manned it meant that few, if any, cars split the run up during the course of the day, a commendable effort considering the distance we travelled and the variety of roads we did it on.

As I mentioned, variety was the key thing this time, with the run starting off from Macca’s at Tuggerah, then inland, criss-crossing the Freeway, via a number of back-roads to the first stop at the Heddon Greta Hotel, this gave everyone a chance to settle into the flow of things and to blow out a few of the cobwebs from the night before.   Leaving Greta and heading back to the coast saw us riding around the shores of Lake Maquarie before pulling into The Caves Bar and Restaurant at Caves Beach for the next card, a feed of steak or sausage sandwiches with heaps of trimmings, and of course a bit more re-hydration. Again, another well timed stop with everyone fed and watered before we departed for the next stop at Budgewoi Inn, as with the previous leg it was a good variety of roads and took in some nice stretches with a cool breeze coming in off the lake, a nice change from the dry dusty conditions plaguing those of us who live inland a bit, and don’t get to see that much water, all that often.

From Budgewoi, it was then a short run across to the Freeway, and a chance to crack open the throttle a little bit during the final leg to the Tall Timbers Hotel at Ourimbah. With the last cards drawn, a final feed for the day and a couple of drinks under the belt, it was time to kick back and wait for the final results of hands, the raffle and the presentations, with the run having had a two hundred dollar bonus waiting for the first person to draw a joker and spot prizes at each stop to spice up the card draw, it also meant that even if you did not get a winning hand at the end of the day, you still had a chance of scoring a prize,

Personally, I reckon that even if they didn’t win an actual prize, given that it was a great guided tour around the countryside, there were very few who lost on the day.

Give yourselves a big pat on the back Central Coast AMC, you deserve it, see you all there next year.
