The Thunderbolt Rally was on again so we threw a leg over and headed East for the historic town of Stroud on the Buckets Way. What was a bit different this time, was the green Holden WB ute that was playing backup.

Picking up some AMC members along the way and  we had our usual dose of fun on the winding stuff and rolled into the showgrounds about 3 in the arvo.

Erections up we had a wander about and finally made our way up the hill to the Central pub. A few drinks later, a feed and music pounding it seemed like only a few minutes and we were being kicked out of there! So last drinks were taken back to the campsite and we all finally found our tents in the small hours.

St Patrick’s Day dawned and it was with heavy heads we emerged to greet it. Luck would have it we were all wearing green armbands so of course we got into the swing of it pretty early!

Run in aid of Cystic Fibrosis with the support of the Stroud Lions Club and Stroud Rodeo Association, the AMC  raise money and awareness and do it in a way we all enjoy. Bikes, Hot Rods, Utes, Mini Trucks and those with art on their bods headed on over to show their pride and joys.

The day was a muggy one but the people started arriving and the trade stalls got busy and the various comps got under way. Some excellent ink work was on display on some bods and the burnout comp went well. Only 3 bikes but take a bow fellas, they were good ones! Dunno about the thongs, but Jack put on an excellent display that shows that short and quick can do the trick!

3 bands put out some good music and the girls showed how to swallow. Trophies were handed out for the Bike and Car Show and a good time was had by all. The backup ute won best of show and nearly needed another ute to take all the trophies home! The cool breezes finally arrived but unfortunately so did the rain. The adult entertainment went on eventually but by that time, both Crusty and I had decided we didn’t want to do what one photographer did last year (slipped and smashed his camera to smitherines) so we abandoned ship. Sorry about that. We were told they were pretty good too…just to rub it in.

Sunday dawned and we hit the road for home. Started out with a little wet off the road but that was about it. Hit the top of the mountains and it was one of those rare wonderful rides back across the top of the New England. Rolling corners and good blacktop.

Pulled in tired but happy, the way a good weekend should be. Thanks AMC yet again. See you at the next one!
