Comancheros Poker Run 06
![]()
The
11th November saw Rowdy and Shano leave Walgett heading for
Lithgow to attend the Comancheros Poker Run. The weather was fine until
the new contender for the rain god award weaved his magic. Good on ya
Shano (he wished he brought it home). When we got to Bathurst wet weather
gear was purchased but as you would expect he didn’t need it again.
We arrived at the clubhouse in Lithgow, where Billy welcomed us and showed us where to throw our swags. Then we headed for the Donnybrook Hotel to meet up everyone else for the start of the poker run. We signed in and got our first card.
Approx. 100 bikes were in attendance, you name it, it as there. This made an awesome display around the pub. We headed to our second stop at Oberon where there was a Remembrance Day memorial minute of silence.
For a couple of flat trackers it was a bloody good start to the ride. Plenty of twists and turns.
From Oberon we headed through O’Connell, onto Kelso where some needed fuel. Our third stop and lunch break was at Sofala after some magic riding. Cold drinks and sausage sandwiches were provided as part of the hand price. With all being duly fed and watered we headed off again.
Through Ilford and Capertee on to the Royal Hotel at Cullen Bullen. The scenery and ride were f..king magnificent and for us flat trackers we scraped parts of the bikes that we didn’t know existed. Some complained about the roughness of the road but they have never ridden on the rough roads out our way.
After an extended stop in Cullen Bullen and a couple of coldies we headed back for the clubhouse in Lithgow. The sight of so many bikes traveling down the dual carriage way was an extremely impressive sight and sound, the thunder roared.
Once back at the clubhouse we drew our last card. A rolling bike show was part of the poker run and trophies were awarded for different categories.
Once again the Barbie was fired up and the bar opened. The settling in process began. We met some very colourful people as the photos indicate.
This was an extremely well organized event, with club members stopping traffic at all inter-sections and traffic lights to allow a smooth (and law abiding) flow of bikes. We were made to feel very welcome and even scored an invite to their News Years Eve Party in Binnaway. All in all it was a great weekend for us.
We would like to thank the Comancheros for a very memorable weekend and some of the best roads we have encountered for a long time.
We felt good when we got off the bikes at about 6pm on Sunday but the photo really shows what a good ride we had.
Weather permitting we will be back next year.
