11.12.09  Received this from Shadow...Jeff Hopgood - Argus

MACLEAY Valley Ulysses Club member Jeff Hopgood is recovering in John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition after a horrific motorcycle accident last weekend.

The 56-year-old is well known around the valley for riding his Triumph Rocket III motorbike around town with his dog (Rusky) on the back. But last Sunday as Mr Hopgood was returning home along South West Rocks Rd disaster struck. Police said about 12.15pm a Holden Commodore sedan and Mr Hopgood’s Triumph collided, 3km south of Gladstone.

The impact of the collision caused Mr Hopgood to lose his right arm and right leg.

Macleay Valley Ulysses Club president Bob Hogan said the news of Mr Hopgood’s accident was tragic. “It has shaken a few members up,” Mr Hogan said. “Jeff has been with the Macleay Valley Ulysses Club from the start, he’s a bit of a character.” Mr Hopgood had joined his fellow Ulysses Club members at Gladstone on Saturday night for a branch Christmas party. He stayed the night at a friend’s place in South West Rocks and was on his way home to South Kempsey when the accident occurred. “I think Jeff’s biggest worry at the moment is his dog Rusky, but the Ulysses Club is looking after him and mowing the lawn,” Mr Hogan said. “Most of the Ulysses guys are planning a visit to John Hunter Hospital, maybe next weekend when he has recovered a little.”

A spokesperson from the Port Macquarie Crash Unit said the accident was still under investigation and charges were possible. “We have spoken to two witnesses of the accident and have taken statements,” he said.

16.01.07 Down near Phillip Island, a pretty part of the world with some damn good riding.

Hi,

We are down at Kilcunda (near Phillip Island) in Victoria, central to Phillip Island racing circuit, Inverloch and Wilson’s Prom.  We have a farm stay unit.  Self-contained (lounge/kitchen, bathroom & bedroom).  We also have an entertainment shed with pool table and dance floor.  We own a trike ourselves, but love to mix with bikers and trikers.  Our farm stay can be viewed at http://www.national3wheelers.org.au/

Go to links and look for ‘Self drive hire and demo rides’ and ‘Triker Homestay South Gippsland’.

You have a fantastic site.  Keep up the good work.

Whittlesea Half Throttle Rally - IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!

HELP US SAVE OUR RALLY!

 Hi Guys,

Some of you may have heard that our Rally has been cancelled this year.

This was due to the local football club withdrawing their support at the last minute.

The local football club provided us with use of their club rooms, bar facility and they put on the Saturday evening meal.

In an endeavour to save the Rally an emergency sub-committee has been formed and some alternative solutions sought.

  • Instead of using the football club rooms, we will use a Pavilion in the showgrounds.
  • There will still be a band on Saturday night.
  • Instead of drinks purchased over the bar it will be BYO (The pub is just down the road and will be cheaper anyway)
  • Instead of the football club providing a meal, we will provide a spit roast with potatoes and salad. ($10 a head)
  • Breakfast on Friday and Saturday will be available. (Bacon and egg sandwiches - $2.70)
  • Tea and coffee - $1.00
  • There will be no more pre-registration. Registration will be $20 or $10 for a day visit.
  • Camping only
  • Toilet and shower faciliteies are still available
  • BBQ facilities are available for your own cooking if required

We will make a final decision THIS Saturday as to whether we are able to proceed with the rally. Final notification will be emailed afterwards.

If you still intend to come to the Rally, could you please register your interest by replying to htrally@optusnet.com.au BEFORE Sat 21 Oct.

This is not a commitment to attend, just an indication of interest. We just need to estimate numbers.

"The Unseen Biker"

( Dedicated and in memory to those we have lost for ' not being seen ' )

I saw you, clasp your purse closer to you in the grocery store line.
But, you didn't see me

when I put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last
Sunday.

I saw you, pull your child closer as we passed each other on the
sidewalk.
But, you didn't see me,

playing Santa at the local mall.

I saw you, change your mind about going into the restaurant.
But, you didn't see me,

attending a meeting to raise more money for the
cyclone relief.

I saw you, roll up your window and shake your head when I drove by.
But, you didn't see me,

driving behind you when you flicked your cigarette
butt out the car window.

I saw you, frown at me when I smiled at your children.
But, you didn't see me,

when I took time off from work to run toys to the
homeless.

I saw you, stare at my long hair.
But, you didn't see me,

and my friends cut ten inches off for Shave for a
Cure.

I saw you, roll your eyes at our leather coats and gloves.
But, you didn't see me,

and my brothers donate our old coats and gloves to those that had none.

I saw you, look in fright at my tattoos.
But, you didn't see me,

cry as my children were born and have their names
written over and in my heart.

I saw you not indicate changing lanes  , while rushing off to go somewhere.
But, you didn't see me  ,

on my way home to be with my family.

I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.
But, you didn't see me,

when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you, yelling at your kids in the car.
But, you didn't see me,

pat my child's hands, knowing he was safe behind me.

I saw you, reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road.
But, you didn't see me,

squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you, race down the road in the rain.
But, you didn't see me,

get soaked to the skin so my son could have the
car to attend his college examinations .

I saw you, run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time.
But, you didn't see me,

trying then to turn right.

I saw you, cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in.
But, you didn't see me,

I had to leave the road.

I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass.
But, you didn't see me.

As I wasn't there.

I saw you, go home to your family.
But, you didn't see me.

Why ?? ,

Because that was when I died  ,

that day you cut me off.

BUT NO ! ... you didn't see me .

18.11.04 Fleetie.mac puts out a great email alert called Exhaust Notes about upcoming club runs, biker events etc and in it this morning he announced the following good news!

AS reported by Chris Turner, from the steps of Hornsby Courthouse. As Chairman of the Noise Committee for the Motorcycle Council of NSW, Chris has taken his enthusiasm for accuracy into the court to defend a fine he received for "inefficient silencer". He was pulled over by the Highway Patrol in St Ives and issued a fine for loud pipes, even though he had a "Can Kit". This was on the basis that the policeman proclaimed himself an expert on noise judgement and ignored the Can Kit.

The Police prosecutor withdrew the case after Chris had cross-examined the policeman in the witness box. His line of questioning forced an admission that the policeman was not an "expert" and that to issue the fine required an actual noise test (Sec 160 of Roads and Traffic Regulations) and not just the "opinion" of the policeman on the spot.

This is a win of significant proportions. It gets rid of the "hassling" tool. A job very well done!

The police response to this will be interesting. Virtually the only response open to them is to advise the EPA of the bike details, so the EPA can then issue a Notice to the owner to present the bike for testing at Lidcombe.

Unless the Police then decide to "discover" some other little known Regulation with which to hassle riders. The lack of a "Can Kit" type label on an aftermarket pipe will, under the retrospective law of Clause 19 of Regs from Protection of the Environment, still attract a $200 fine. Work continues on repealing Clause 19.

But, without a roadside measurement, the fine for "cause to operate a vehicle with inefficient silencer" is of no value and may be safely fought. (the only roadside noise tests are done by EPA, so that is different game anyway and you are dead in the water if rounded up there, no matter what the Can Kit says)

In summary,

The motorcycle met the requirements of Clause 19. The Police issued a fine and Defect Notice for noisy exhausts anyway.

The fine issued by the Police has no basis unless the bike was tested in accordance with the Stationary Noise Test requirements.

We should all be aware of Chris's success.

well done Chris

18.10.04  From Chips via Crusty

On April 25th the Kings Cross Bikers Social And Welfare Club along with various other clubs were involved in a ride to celebrate Anzac Day, during this ride one of our members John Tvsborg (Johnny Yellow) who was riding his bike with his wife Edith (Princess Edith) on the back. The bike was involved in an accident which has caused Edith to lose movement of her legs placing her “ in the Doctors words” in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Johnny and Edith have 2 young children Maya (3 ½) and Mychaela (18 months). They have very strong family values and have been members of our club for about 5 years. Both have been very actively involved in the charity work associated with the club assisting disabled children, elderly, sick children at Westmead Children’s Hospital and schools. Edith has been very strong with the news that she may never walk again and has retained her very positive outlook that she has on life. You would be proud to meet her and see how strong she is. Johnny has organised the children, home and work as well as visiting Edith in hospital daily. As you can imagine this can take it toll on most people, but Johnny is coping well.

The Kings Cross Bikers Social And Welfare Club have always been there to assist those less fortunate than ourselves and now we have a situation where the family of one of our members needs assistance. We have planned this fundraiser with huge support from various communities that we have assisted in our time in order to help Johnny and Edith pay of bills and set up their house to make it “wheelchair friendly”.

We will be doing this by holding raffles, auctions, rides and entertainment on November 7 2004 at the South Sydney Leagues Club in Redfern from 2pm-10pm.
Some of the fundraisers included  are: * The key to a monkey’s heart.
This involves people purchasing a key for $2. They then try the key on the locked box provided. If the key works, they open the box, which contains a banana. They give the banana to the monkey (one of our members will be dressed in a monkey outfit). While the banana distracts the monkey, they then grab a great prize from the table.
* Bike ride and photograph.
Members of the club will provide a ride on the back of a bike and a personalised photo for $5.
* Auction.
Fantastic prizes will be auctioned off. Various businesses and individuals have donated these prizes.
Along with this there will be a band and regular comedy acts.
There is a $5.00 entry fee and any assistance, donations or input will be appreciated.
Children are welcome as we have access to a non-restricted area as long as they are supervised.
Help us help a fellow biker & family in need
We ask that you pass the word onto your members and friends.
If you think you can attend, please reply to this email so we can let the organisers know how many people will be attending.
On behalf of the Kings Cross Bikers Social And Welfare Club, I thank you for your consideration and time.
We look forward to seeing you there

24TH ANNUAL SYDNEY  MOTORCYCLE TOY RUN

Sydney Toy Run co-coordinator Linda Nicastri is excited about the new format for the 24th Annual Sydney Toy Run

Bikers Australia has put the Sydney Toy Run together for many years.. with Motorcyclists from all walks of life riding on masse to hand over thousands of toys and gifts for needy children to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

"This year we a very keen to put the event in front of more people to gain greater recognition for the cause.

Sunday December 12th will see thousands of motorcycles gather in Hickson Road in the city just near the Spirit of Tasmania dock and leave at 10.30am.. crossing the Anzac Bridge on their decorated bikes and riding Victoria Road to James Ruse Drive and into Grand Avenue at Rosehill arriving at Parramatta City Raceway.. we encourage everyone to join in or watch the ride go by" says Linda secretary of Bikers Australia "with the help of Parramatta Showground Trust, Parramatta City Raceway and sponsors for raffle prizes and printing.. this year promises to be huge!"

Major Mark Campbell of the Salvation Army said today, "Christmas is a special time, however it is also a time of added pressure which can place significant strain on families and individuals. Addiction and the ongoing affects of the drought continue to put pressure on Salvation Army resources. This Christmas The Salvation Army estimates assisting over 300,000 people providing 150 hampers and distributing 250,000 toys. We greatly appreciate the support of motorcyclists in helping the Salvos bring light to someone's life this Christmas".

"Parramatta City Raceway is proud to be involved in this years Sydney Motorcycle Toy run as the destination venue" said PCR Managing Director Steven Green. "PCR is a fun family friendly venue and to be able to support underprivileged families through the combined efforts of the Toy Run and the Salvation Army makes perfect sense to us. I know Linda and her team intend on having some great entertainment which should make the day a lot of fun"

06.10.04 Star Motel

Hi everyone, just thought we would drop you a line. We Steve (Parko) and Ruth own the Star Motel at Coffs Harbour , we are members of the American Motorcycle Club Coffs Harbour and may have met many of you on some runs.  Our Motel is situated on the South side of Coffs Harbour about 1Klm from the City Centre and we have 28 rooms ranging from rooms that sleep 1 to rooms that sleep 14.  Many bikers stay with us as we offer secure bike lock up, excellent bar and bistro (meals very large and drinks cheap) as well as discounted rates for our rooms to club members (various clubs).

Because we both ride ( Steve Harley Road King and Ruth Sporty), we know there is nothing better than pulling up at a pub or motel and being made feel welcome, with no worries about our bikes and good company, food and drinks oh yeah and some sleep at a great price.

We would love to hear you ride on in one day.

Ride hard , play harder, stay upright.

12.09.04 Shunfeng (Jack) Chiu

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are glad to have your valuable support for all these years. As always, we will have some new models introduced during the peak season. This time we will take a look at 4 new models.

The first model is a new off road gas scooter. There has not been any interesting model of gas scooter on the market for a while, but our F26 will give the market the surprise it needs. This scooter is meant for the rugged path and even the styling has the "dirt bike" looks. With front conventional shocks and a rear suspension, this scooter will go over any bump with ease and the ride will be smooth. With a 49cc engine, it will zip through the whole neighbor or the track easily.

The next three models are all categorized under mini choppers. The first, which is the smallest, is the F28. It is a tiny mini chopper with a lot of Harley feel. Great for the kids or even the kids at heart! The full chrome frame and high gloss painting makes it the best classic little mini chopper available. The next model is F30, a mid size chopper. It has a long front fork with springs giving it the most comfortable ride and a touch of class. The size is right for a kid or even an adult.

The last is the crowning glory of our hard work during this period of development. The F32 is a full size chopper with a length of 1.98 meters. Powered by a 198cc engine, it will go up to 75 km/h easily and the feel of wind in your hair. Wide rear tire and unorthodox new style front and rear fender make this model the best-looking chopper around. We are sure this will be the best selling model in no time.

We offer our customers good after sales service by giving 2% free parts for the order, 3 months guarantee for the driving systems for all the items. This is not easy for many other manufacturers. We are very confident about our quality.

Kindly have a look at these models carefully and consider adding them to your product line. Should you need more information, please contact me. Thank you very much!

Yours Sincerely,

Jack Chiu
