“STICK IT UP PROSTATE” CANCER RIDE 2008
![]() |
The
quote “We Stuck It Up ‘Em” made famous by the legendary Australian Rules
Footballer, Ted Whitten (Snr) now has significant meaning for Victorian motor
bike riders following the “Stick It Up Prostate Cancer” Motorcycle Ride arranged
in conjunction with the EJ Whitten Foundation.
With the weather bureau somehow getting their predictions of an old fashioned summer day, with a top temp of 34 correct, and a start time of 11:00am that allowed any Saturday night party goers to have blood flow back into their system optimism of a good turn out for this inaugural ride was high.
In excess of 200 bikes rocked into Plummer St Pt Melbourne for the start and it was interesting to note that many riders didn’t want to leave their saddles, perhaps expecting the old fashion prostate check might be part of the registration fee.
The ride headed off via an officially unopened entry to the Westgate Freeway and headed down the road to the Event venue at Werribee Park and despite traffic being quite thick maintained an orderly & impressive line of bikes.
Entry through the gates to the Park was smooth as silk due to the assistance of the 2 sexy nurses, Bundy & Piglet, although hampered at times by some fake coronaries.
On arrival riders were greeted by great music from the band Momojo, with DJ, Brett aka Savage Sounds controlling the proceedings, as they wandered around grabbing a snack prepared by the 1st Laverton Scouts, checked out the trade stalls or tried to get lucky with some of the prizes on offer…..Many male riders were noted standing up against trees (must have been that rumour of a free check again)
The legendary Dirty Pierre happened to join in and gave a brief impromptu show as well as auctioning a poster for the cause.
Ted Whitten (Jnr) spoke about his father’s circumstances with prostate cancer which unfortunately saw him lose the battle at the ripe age of 62 & a doctor from Peter Mac provided medical details. Both encouraging males to get checked from 40 years onwards and surprising many that such checks can be through a blood test, which also checks for other medical issues…..
Some may say the topic is a pain in the rear end but this is one disease that can sneak up and hit you without you being aware so the greater awareness created the more chance we have of cruising the highways longer.
Overall it was a great day, for the inaugural event, with improvements already planned for next year.
Special thanks to the Gold Sponsor, The Delta Group & Bronze Sponsors; Harley City; Brand Partners (Lawyers); Philp Newby Owen Insurance Brokers & all the others that provided financial & volunteer support.
The message of the day…Go and get your Prostate checked … Not knowing will not make this insidious disease go away….
