42 girls, 39 on bikes, 3 in cars – 1 mishap, a blown motor

The 21st of May began as a beautiful autumn day and just got better.  The ‘girls’ from the south spilt into two groups at Hexham.  One group travelled up the New England highway picking up more riders as they travelled north while the other group took the scenic Bucketts Way.  The Upright Angels travelled down from the North Coast, all of us meeting up at Bendemeer in the early afternoon immediately doubling the female population of this quiet little town.  Well it was quiet until we arrived.

After the meet and greet Lyn tried hard to get us all together for a group photo, but the usual pandemonium prevailed and we spread out all over the pub, well you know how it is…some had to go say hello to the locals,  some were checking out the rooms, some hit the showers, I wanted to be sure the bar was still in the same place as last year, in case I lost my bearings later in the evening.  Lots of talking and catching up with what everyone had been up to since our last ride together.

After dinner when we were all more relaxed we settled in to wait for the entertainment to begin, mind you no one seemed to know what form it was going to take so imagine our surprise when this nice chap starts setting up a KARAOKE machine…now this is not every ones idea of entertainment but I have to tell you it was the biggest hoot I’ve seen for a while, I even got to sing…not well…but loud and the presentation was…well…maybe enough said.  A good time was had by all and aren’t the locals glad we only visit once a year.

A nice long lazy breakfast in the morning saw us right for the ride back as we left in small groups to sample the offerings of our favourite pubs and coffee shops on the route home.

A big thank you to Lyn who goes to so much trouble to organise these weekends for us, another great one girl.

 Cheers and beers
