Just Girls Tea Gardens Recovery Weekend 2006

The girls were gathering for the ‘Just Girls’ summer recovery weekend.  No matter where we were coming from nearly everyone rode through rain or showers but still it was so good to be heading for a ‘girls’ weekend.

The Tea Gardens Hotel/Motel was the venue and 32 ‘girls’ hit the bar running…the usual hello’s and what have you been up to discussions went on while we all settled down to chat and catch up…after a couple of drinks I thought it might be time to park Kenny for the night, while I still could…imagine my surprise when reversing the dear boy, to line him up with the other bikes, I find Gabe had put her foot under Kenny’s front tyre…Gabe, I still think kicking Kenny was a bit harsh, he still has a scuff mark on his tyre and we did apologise so nicely…

We noticed a lot of activity in the outdoor area and found we had arrived on the evening of the local Food and Wine Festival…well what a surprise for the organisers to have a group of lady bike riders as unexpected guests, and noisy lady bike riders at that, as the rather staid locals drifted in for an evening of fine food, wine and refined conversation god only knows what they must have thought when they heard the boisterousness coming from the beer garden, still the entertainment provided by the ‘girls’ in the pool, synchronised swimming and water sports etc should have made up for some the noise, judging by the audience anyway.

Of course whenever we have a get together raffles are always on the agenda and we usually sell heaps of tickets to the locals…well…the patrons of the Wine and Food Festival will be talking for some time to come of the ticket sellers from ‘Just Girls’ selling tickets to aid breast cancer research with bra’s wrapped around their heads…Vickie in pale pink and Gina in purple…many thanks by the way to the girls who lent their underwear for a good cause…the slick selling techniques of Gabe and Jess also went well rewarded with tickets selling like hotcakes…we now have a very good start to our fund raising for breast cancer research which culminates at the Merriwa River Rally in conjunction with October’s Pink Ribbon Day.

The Hi-Fi’s were the band for the evening, playing some very mellow old favourites from the 50’s & 60”s and they rose to the occasion when our infamous Room 11 members marched onto the dance floor in Aussie colours right down to the Aussie flag boxers, green and gold wigs, assorted sports wear and pom poms, by launching immediately into the Aussie anthem…(the whole pub erupted into a very heartfelt but slightly out of tune and don’t know half the words rendition of Advance Australia Fair…very patriotic indeed) Room 11, girls you are fast becoming legends…

As the evening progressed girls slowly started heading off for a good nights sleep before setting off home in the morning, of course the usual party animals stayed up until the wee hours and breakfast in the morning was hilarious with the stories of what they got up to…but…I can’t give too much away…(secret women’s business and all that)

 Till next time

Cheers n beers
