Just Girls Walcha 2004

'Just Girls' is a Newcastle based group for lady riders, with members from Sydney, the Central & North Coast, and inland from Denman, Merriwa & Mudgee.

It all began in September 2001 when a very eager little band of 18 ladies made up of all ages, (from 17 to 60 something!), L's, P's and experienced riders, on fast sports bikes down to a trail bike made the trip to Walcha on Thunderbolts Way. Now they have a membership of over 100, with usually more than 30 girls on every weekend away.

Every year they have the John Schofield Memorial Weekend ride, a ‘mixed (bring your guys)’ ride back to Walcha in memory of a lost mate. This year Crusty and I cruised on up to party with them.

After the cool and windy weather we’ve been having down this way the last weekend of winter dawned bright and cheerful, we had a pleasant ride up the New England highway and then across to Walcha to meet up with the girls, their partners and guests.

The party was well under way when we got there and it was great to catch up with old friends, meet their ‘other halves’ and get introduced to our newest member. Five young Harley riding guys from Kurrie decided to tag along and help out with the entertainment (Gina, you missed out badly this time girl!) the sight of an xl size Harley rider in a girls size 12 team Suzuki blouse is one that will stay with me for quite a while. As you do at these get togethers lot’s of drinks were drunk, stories told, jokes laughed at and a really good time was had by all.

Thanks girls for some great times and all the support and encouragement you have given me over the last 18 months. I look forward to many more rides with you all.
