Thunder West V.V.M.C. @ Pearlbrook 05
![]()
Saturday morning saw me heading up the highway towards the Thunderwest Rally at the Vietnam Veterans MC NSW Chapter property at Pearlbrook. However, upon arriving at the entrance to the site I was subjected to a tirade of derision and laughter seeing as my mode of transport was, wait for it, Japanese, a bright canary yellow, had an almost silent exhaust, and worst of all, had a couple of extra wheels!! Yep you guessed it, I was driving Kaz’s little yellow Suzuki car. After explaining that due to hurting my back a couple of days earlier and being unable to swing a leg over my bike, that in order to make it to the rally I had done the unthinkable and opted for a tin-top as a form of transport.
After a short discussion as to the validity of my excuse the blokes manning the gate finally let me through, then to a chorus of, “where do you put the key in to wind it up”?, and “does it come with spare rubber bands”? I proceeded down the hill and finally parked it in the area reserved for us just outside the gate.
Disowning the car by trying to sneak away un-noticed proved to be a non event as I was immediately spotted by all and sundry as being the only bloke who was shuffling around like he had a broomstick shoved up his arse and wearing a pained expression on his face whilst everyone else was enjoying themselves. Still though bikers are a forgiving lot and after a lot of offers of help if I need it I started to take a few photos, I figured that I would try and get as many as I could in case I had to pull up short, which, as it turned out was a good call as late afternoon saw me totally stuffed and collapsed on one of the lounges in the clubhouse.
After a bit of a rest and a couple of painkillers I had to bite the bullet and admit to myself that there was no way I could stay any longer so I said my goodbyes and headed home. Needless to say I missed out on what was no doubt going to be a great nights entertainment with the weather being a lot cooler than last year and a good line up of bands in the form of Brian McVernon, Jack Russell and the K9s, Retro Rockets, Sparx and the Long Line Show and of course the adult entertainment. I am sure that a lot of people are going to tell me what a bloody good rally I missed out on, but you can rest assured that I will be there next year partying on twice as hard to make up for this one..
Thanks go out to all the VVMC Chapters for all the hard yards they have so far put into giving us great rallies and runs, and I hope we will continue to enjoy many more in the future.
