Rebels Bike Show (Poker & Toy Run) Dubbo 06
![]()
2nd December 2006
Well
we started off at Woodhams truck stop waiting for everyone so that we could get
away at 7.00am sharp! NOT.
One girls blouse rang worried that is was going to be a wet ride. Following a little swift talking too, which let him know that a GIRL was riding, he should be able to as well. Another rider also got the same talking too, when he forgot his wallet, (they eventually caught up with us in Coonamble).
We finally got to Dubbo getting wet on the way to Coonamble. Funnily enough Shano (the new rain god contender) was with us. We were too late for the toy run and too hot and bothered for the poker run. BUGGER, so we decided to stay at the pub and cool off with a few beers and a great lunch at the Macquarie Inn Hotel.
Rowdy and Jimmy turned up at the pub so we just had to stay for a few more beers. Caught up with Skinny and Zip also. We finally rode to the Rebels clubhouse and parked our bikes; settled in and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon watching various events.
Jimmy’s girl (Keira) won the ladies bunji event. There were many entrants ranging from young and old in the bunji event. One so determined to get the drink that he made it all the way to the tent peg.
The slow race proved to be a hard one for most, but the young boys showed us how it was done. One young man just about had his bike at a stand still, crawling to the finish line without putting a foot down!
A couple of dirt bikes finished up needing some maintenance after going in the barrel race.
There were plenty of drag races, with a father and son effort creating plenty of interest. The son came first (both times) on his little Honda CR against his father who was on a Harley. A display was set up for all, as two Harley’s raced each other and decided to stop half way and have a drink before getting to the finish line. Rowdy, whilst helping with the marshalling ended up standing on the wrong side of the field with the wind blowing the dust on him (silly bastard). Covered in dust he was. An old Toyota Landcruiser stole the highlight of the day by winning every race he entered with a 350 Chevy under the bonnet. The other cars didn’t stand a chance. Grudge matches seemed to be the order of the day. Two little blokes on their Pee Wee 50s were one of the highlights of the drags.
The burn out competition was started with an old bike called Frankenstein, which was donated to the Rebels by Grandy’s Bike and Bits. After a bit of maintenance it has been in the burn out competition for the last 3 years. You would think that after being subjected to so much punishment she would give up, NO WAY, she is still going strong! A little girl on a blue Pee Wee 50 won the junior burn out competition. Her effort was outstanding and received great cheers from the crowd. The blokes on their Harley’s put on a good display, showing us how it should be done. One KTM dirt bike blew a water pump trying to do a burn out. The senior winner was a bloke on a Anniversary model Fatboy. It was a monster effort, he had the pipes that hot you could nearly see through them. Not the way most people would treat a $40000 motorcycle, but fuck it was impressive.
There were a number of bikes on display ranging from a 1928 16H Norton to the newest Harley’s, some fairly flash Jappers and everything in between. With lots of custom paint work and accessories.
The cars on display ranged from vintage to modern. A Peter Brock Special, a couple of custom painted Holdens , a Cadillac and a Street Rod were just some on display. People’s choice went to a purple 1966 Ford Mustang convertible, very nice.
There was also quite an impressive tattoo show. I tried to take pictures of them but the camera played up so sorry if I missed any good ones.
The wet t-shirt was particularly interesting for us with Jimmy’s girl (Keira) coming second. A first for her, look out next year.
The night finished off with the girls coming out and putting on a show for all the men, much to their delight as the photos will show!!!!!! A good night was had by all.
A big thank you to the Rebels for inviting us and putting on a great show. I had a great time being my first rally and was nominated to take photos and do the report of the day.
The morning came around quickly after being woken up by the cold morning air. A vote was taken and it was decided to have breakfast at Skinny and Zips. We rang them and let them know that there was going to be 10 for breakfast (in 10 Minutes) PANIC PANIC. Thanks Skinny and Zip for putting up with us. We all got home safely and had an amazing time.
Hopefully we can do it again next year.
My first report
