Well ok, only a couple of display bikes to see, but the smell of burning rubber, flash paint and the roar of pure horsepower added to the fragrance of that perfumed fuel and no self respecting bikaholic could fail to be stirred.

The place to be early in January is definitely *cruising at the 'nats.* For the uninitiated, *cruising* is getting in your street machine and lapping round to the admiration of the crowd. Throw in the occasional laying of rubber, the flashing of a pretty tit and the laughs that go with it all and lapping is the scene! This isn't done in any other bike show in the world apparently and it is very entertaining. Just pull up a stump, settle back and admire the passing parade. Throw in a few bands around the place, a tattoo show and numerous displays and trade stalls and just about every other thing you can think up to do with the time honoured tradition of sucking fumes and that is about the deal.

The overall winner was Ditch Jones who sold his house to cover the costs of building the ute. It's the yellow and silver 1967 HR up a bit on the right hand side in the pics above. Plush teal suede leather, dollars in the hundreds of thousands and custom paint on a seamless body. Powered by a supercharged six. The ute was actually displayed as a stock street machine 20 years ago at the Summernats.
