Ever had one of those days when you know you have forgotten to do something? Its bloody annoying, and the harder you try to remember, the more pissed off you get, till, finally something jogs the memory, and you feel like kicking yourself in the arse for not remembering it earlier. Well, I had one of those days last week, and it wasn’t till I looked at the flyer for the VVMC Sportsman’s night at Pearlbrook that the penny dropped, bugger me if I hadn’t gone and forgotten to give my eldest son his lecture about the birds and bees, so, figuring that although I should have done it about 25 years ago, it was better late than never, and duly approached my wife Kaz with the proposition that show and tell might be a bit better than a plain old lecture, and that with Pearlbrook being run by respectable, worldly wise Veterans it would almost certainly prove to be the ideal classroom. Now Kaz is an easy pushover when it has anything to do with our sons, so, surrounded with that motherly glow from having done something nice for her offspring, she blithely waved me goodbye as I rode away making a mental note to use the youngest son for the same excuse for going next year.

Number one son had his bike packed and ready to go when I arrived, so after doing a bit of father and son bonding up the highway, we finally arrived at the VVMC Clubhouse; having put our tents up, it was a short stroll to the bar to grab a drink and kick back till the evening’s entertainment commenced. A bit of amusement whilst we waited came in the form of a bloke doing a burnout and then his mate crashing the bike a couple of times, and once again, the beef and gravy rolls that are thrown in with the entry price proved a hit, albeit, a bit messy for those of us with beards, but in actual fact a pretty good way to practice for the drool that comes a bit later when the show starts.

With nightfall it had cooled down quite a bit outside, however it was really starting to heat up inside as the exotic dancers took to the stage, now these ladies sure know their job and how to please the crowd, although one that was dressed as a nurse seemed to have got the role playing a bit confused and created a lot of localised swelling when she should have been curing it.

Three sessions later, and a lot of amber fluid to help stave off the heat, saw most of the crowd heading off to bed to grab some shut-eye before the ride home, needless to say, if you weren’t there you missed a bloody good night’s entertainment rounded out with a good nights kip in a pleasant camping site, although the bloke that only just made it out of the roller doors as he staggered for the comfort of his tent, and then, thinking he had made it to bed, pulled the carpet over himself and flaked out, might disagree with the sleep bit.

Thank you VVMC NSW Chapter for a damn good night, and see you all at “Thunder West” in the New Year.
