Yeah I know its late again. Photos are just of around the pub. I didn't
take the camera to the races so I couldn't lose it. All up it was a
fairly uneventful trip - which is good, no one fell off, no one got into
a fight,
no one got hurt, apart from dead brain cells.
Chip Inn Cup 2003
Lizz and I drove over in the car, leaving late as Lizz had to get back
from Lightning Ridge first. We met JH and Fay at Glenn Innes where we
had quite a good feed and then kept on going from there. We got to the
pub around 12:30 that night. The pub was closed up, but there was still
a few Wildcats enjoying the weather on the upstairs verandah. We got
into the pub, sorted out our rooms and settled in for a quick session of
catch-up. Everyone else had arrived through the afternoon and the day
had taken its toll on a few Wildcats. Rowdy was happily holding down the
floor and pushing out ZZZ's for a while. Tallie had the wobbly boot on
by then, and shared his bundy with us. A couple of hours later and
everyone was in bed.
The next day started out with brekky and then prawns and beer in the
pub. Everyone got dressed up in their "going to the races" gear and we
hopped on the bus and headed in. Once again we all chucked in $20 and
got stuck into some serious betting. We had a few wins, but a few more
losses, ending up with $80 for the last race, so after managing to pick
the horse that came dead last we got rid of that, had a few more drinks
and then when the free grog turned off, the bus turned up and we were
off again, back to the pub, where the drinking and partying kept on
going way into the night. (not too sure of many details. Free
beer/spirits/wine all day in the sun)
Got up the next morning to a BBQ brekky and heading home. We left the
Kyogle peoples at the pub and the Walgett contingent came with us to
Glenn Innes where we had a feed and watched some large black clouds
brewing up. Coming up the range it looked to be a great day for a ride
and I was wishing I had
the bike there, but after Glenn the weather turned. JH and Fay were in
front of us when it started to rain bucketloads, and then hail. The hail
was piled up like snow in the paddocks and on the side of the road but
they kept on going. Just a bit after it cleared we pulled up and Fay
still had an inch or so of ice on her seat. JH reckoned he couldn't pull
over because he couldn't see the side of the road. Fay's now thinking
about getting some real gloves to carry instead of just the fingerless
ones she usually uses. After that it was raining on and off to Tamworth
when it cleared and got hot and steamy.
The Walgett mob got a bit wet too, but I think they missed out on the
hail.
All up it was a good trip, and thanks to Dale and Kate (the publicans)
for making us feel welcome again and organising the day.
