Christmas
Party Dress Rehearsal 05
Within the biker fraternity it’s a well known fact that the Wildcats know how to have a good time at their annual Christmas in July Party, and whilst to the casual observer the enjoyment appears to be an almost spontaneous thing, there is, in actuality, a secret formula to the Wildcats success, this secret can be summed up in one word, and that word is, ”Practise”.
Throughout the year at various runs and rallies bikers can be seen and heard as they get stuck into it and party on, this behaviour, taking the form of severe drunkenness and debauchery is considered normal run and rally etiquette, and thus should be earnestly encouraged at all times, however, although whilst the Wildcats appear to be getting into it with the best of them, the underlying truth is that we are only practising.
Having taken the old adage, “Practice makes perfect” to heart, throughout the year we travel to the four corners of Australia to practice as hard as we can at runs and rallies in order to get it right. Unfortunately, due to the ‘not being able to remember the night before’ syndrome, that seems to accompany most of these practice sessions we were still not sure if we were getting it completely correct, so it was wisely suggested that a dress rehearsal was needed for the forthcoming Christmas in July Party, which, staying with Wildcat logic is now of course going to be held in August.
With Rowdy making a quick phone survey of members, it was soon found out that there were enough Wildcats who had suffered a lot of massive next morning rally hangovers during the past year who felt that they were ready for the proposed rehearsal, so, with the remainder being reamed out for being slack, and then sent off to various other events happening on the weekend to practice some more, we headed off to Gina’s place just outside of Forster and got stuck into it.
With Michael and Julie Anderson from Smiths Lake Bottle Shop being biker friendly we bought all our grog there, they also chucked in a large bottle of Red Label, key-rings, and hats as an extra which were raffled off during the night, local fresh caught crabs and prawns were followed, thanks to Rob manning the barbie, by steak and snags with heaps of side dishes for the evening meal, the fires were lit up and took the edge off the cold rain that was falling every now and then, a fashion show of Wildcats merchandise turned into a bit of an undress rehearsal, the pool table was seeing some unusual shots being sunk, although these were mainly in direct proportion to the number of drinks the players were sinking, then in true biker fashion we wended our way into the early hours of the morning before hitting the swags and catching a couple of hours sleep before the aroma of breakfast of bacon and eggs, again thanks to Rob, woke us up.
A run out to the Motorcycle Museum at Nabiac had been planned for Sunday, but with the weather still being a bit lousy most of the members who had a long run home ahead of them decided to give it a miss and head straight off, however, a few of us that were staying over for Sunday night still went, and had a bit of a nostalgic blast from the past, looking at the memorabilia and finding models that we used to ride as we meandered amongst the about 600 bikes on display. This was followed by a scenic tour of the local sights guided by Gina, then back for a feed and put the feet up prior to hitting the sack for a well earned nights rest before the following days ride home.
All up a very good weekend, and considering that it was only a dress rehearsal, it should bode well for the real event at Walgett in August. A big thank you to Gina, daughter Emma and Rob for putting in a huge effort to give us all a bloody good time..
