Wolverines Poker Run 2003
![]()
I lobbed up to Tamworth for the Poker Run on the 19th Jan, only took a couple of pics, report is as follows.
Left Denman with Laury from the "Southern Cross Cruisers Club" at about 7 am, weather cool but warming up quickly, had another rider tag on the end at Muswellbrook, a good but slightly slow run, (well slower than 120 in places anyway) to Tamworth. Arrived at Bikes and Bits as the temperature started to head into "bloody hot" as opposed to "shit its hot". Registered for the poker hand and said g'day to familiar faces did a rough count of bikes but it looked a bit down on last year probably due to the weather forecast of bloody hot in the morning rising to fucken hot later on.

So off we went at 10 o'clock heading to Carroll where the pack nearly drank the place dry, and that was the scenario for the other stops at Curlewis, Quirindi and Dungowan. The run was well set out and varied with the North West NSW Hog chapter doing a great job with marshals standing out in the heat of the day at all the intersections allowing everyone, (in what at times due to the distance between stops, was a long strung out run) to concentrate on the road and not worry about getting lost. This as opposed to the police car at one point which was parked out of sight behind a bush with its driver as he managed to get one of the riders for speeding, in fairness though the officer probably only parked where he did for the shade and did not realise that a visible presence is a better deterrent. So with only one bike taking a bit of a detour into the scenery we all arrived at the last stop at Kootingal Bowling Club for the presentation of best poker hand, won by Laury with a club flush, he ended up with a huge box of prizes to the tune of about $500 worth. Then the raffle prize followed by the drawing about 40 of the losing poker hands out of a box for a pick of a table full of prizes, then with the crowd breaking up it was time for a very sedate ride home where I gave Kaz the pair of leather fingerless gloves I had won, I told her they were bondage type ones and said I have to go again next year to win the rest of the outfit , (I think she fell for it). All up a very good day, Thanks to Bikes and Bits, all the sponsors who donated the prizes and a very big thanks to all the people who did the marshal and cards side of it..
See you there next year..
Charlie
